Age Bakker (1950) currently is IMF executive director. Until 2007, he was deputy executive director at De Nederlandsche Bank and professor of Money and Banking at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam.
Previously he has held various positions at De Nederlandsche Bank and at the IMF (1979-81). He is a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the European System of Central Banks, and member of a number of policy committees within the framework of the Group of Ten and the OECD. He has been actively engaged in preparing the introduction of the euro in the Dutch financial system.
His publications range from European monetary cooperation, the international monetary system to the functioning of financial markets. Recently he has chaired a working group on Causes of Financial Sector Consolidation for the Group of Ten.
