Ping Xie (1955) is director-general of the Research Department and senior research fellow at the People’s Bank of China (PBOC).

He joined the PBOC in 1985 where he worked successively as deputy division chief and chief in the Planning Department and the Interest Rates Department. From 1994 to 1997 he has been deputy director of the Policy Research Department and the director of the Non-bank Financial Institutions Department. From November 1997 to July 1998 he was governor of Hunan Branch of the PBOC.

He serves as secretary general and executive director in the China Society for Finance and Banking and is a member and secretary general of the Academy Committee of this Society.

He is chief editor of the Journal of Financial Research and senior researcher of the Center for Financial Study of the Chinese, Academy of Social Sciences.

He is professor at the Graduate School of the PBOC, at Xinan University of Finance and Economics, plurality professor of Nankai University and the Renmin University of China.

He has published widely in academic journals and books.
